But when the night is falling and you cannot find the light; if you feel your dream is dying, hold tight. You've got the music in you.

5:55 in the morning

It’s early. Do you know how I know that it’s early? Because it’s dark outside. And from the looks of it, the sun has no plans of coming out anytime soon. Nashville still looks asleep for the most part, save a few people who are braving the storm…

But not me. I’m wide awake. In fact, I’ve been awake for about an hour and a half, thanks to one of the loudest and most magnificent storms I’ve seen in a long time. I woke up around 4:30, sitting straight up in my bed. I’m not sure if it was the bright lightning or the immediate concussion that woke me up, but I was apparently startled. I laid down again and listened to the storm for a while, and even got two phone calls from neighbors. You know a storm is good when you get phone calls at 4:45 in the morning.

But as I debated going back to sleep, I decided that the best thing for me to do would be to get up now, go to the gym and then get an early start on my day. Otherwise I’d fall asleep and really not want to get up at 7AM, which means that I probably would sleep until 9. And that’s no good. Not on a Tuesday.

So here I am, waiting for my iPod to sync to my computer so that I can go kill some more time doing cardio. I’m going to stay away from the weights, though, because I think I hurt my back lifting a keyboard at rehearsal on Sunday.

There is something kind of peaceful about this time of day. I don’t see it very often, in fact I would have probably debated on whether 5:55 AM even existed. But there’s something about looking out the window and not knowing what the day is going to bring — and yet knowing that it’s all about to unfold — that is really kind of exciting. Okay, really, what’s exciting is that no matter what the day brings, one thing is for sure. I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight.

I’ve got about five more minutes (best guess) of iPod syncing time. By then it will be six o’clock.
